Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the world. Trained professionals recruit, screen, match, and support Bigs and Littles through a network of 400 agencies throughout the country, and these one-to-one mentoring relationships have documented positive outcomes for children.
Bigs and Littles, and their families, are from all walks of life and are as diverse as all of America. What our Littles have in common is a desire to have a Big, an extra caring adult in their life. What Bigs have in common is a willingness to share some fun with a young person.
BBBSLR staff take great care in matching together a child and volunteer with similar interests, hobbies, and personality traits – Bigs consistently say they get even more out of being matched than their Littles!
"100 Bigs in 100 Days"
The idea of a “100 Bigs in 100 Days” campaign was born with a two-fold purpose: launch an aggressive campaign to recruit quality mentors to work with at-risk youth in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties and obtain 100 Big Brother/Big Sister applications in a 100-day time frame. The official kick-off of the “100 Bigs in 100 Days” campaign took place at the agency’s annual picnic on July 13th. At that time, current Bigs/Littles/families were asked to help with the campaign, through linking staff to new and different potential volunteer-rich businesses/groups, and also through the willingness to share their owns stories and experiences from involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
